{"id":270,"date":"2014-06-20T21:56:04","date_gmt":"2014-06-20T11:56:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lairds.ca\/?p=270"},"modified":"2014-06-22T21:24:40","modified_gmt":"2014-06-22T11:24:40","slug":"on-the-reef","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lairds.ca\/?p=270","title":{"rendered":"On The Reef!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">What an amazing day! \u00a0The day started with an early morning pickup at 6:45 am to head <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lairds.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Photo-022.jpg\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-271\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lairds.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Photo-022-300x198.jpg\" alt=\"Photo (022)\" width=\"300\" height=\"198\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lairds.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Photo-022-300x198.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lairds.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Photo-022-452x300.jpg 452w, https:\/\/www.lairds.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Photo-022.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/span><\/a>to the catamaran destined for the outer reef. \u00a0After several days of cool weather, we were excited to have such a warm day &#8211; definitely a sunscreen day!\u00a0The Great Barrier Reef comprises of 2900 individual reefs and 71 coral cays and its ecosystem supports the greatest concentration of life on the planet. (another World Heritage Unesco site) We boarded the boat and sailed out about 40 km to Hastings reef where we slipped on wet suits and spent the morning snorkeling around the coral reef &#8211; taking in the sights of a variety of shells and fish; including some giant clams and many large neon colored parrot fish to name a few. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">After lunch we moved to Breaking Patches reef for more snorkeling adventure. \u00a0The sights were too spectacular to describe. \u00a0At times we just lay on the water looking deep below us feeling like we were watching a movie going on right before us. Our only regret, forgetting Mykee&#8217;s GoPro!
